In 1502, the Great Captain embarked on his fourth expedition, a daring voyage to the New World. His mission was to explore the coast of Central America and to establish a permanent settlement in the region. With a fleet of four ships and a crew of over 300 men, the Great Captain set sail from Spain in May of 1502.
The expedition was plagued by storms and setbacks from the very beginning. One of the ships was lost at sea, and another was forced to turn back due to damage. The remaining two ships continued on, eventually reaching the coast of Central America in July of 1502.
The Great Captain and his men made landfall at a place they called Puerto Bello, in present-day Panama. They were greeted by a group of friendly natives, who provided them with food and supplies. The Great Captain then Free Downloaded his men to begin construction of a fort, which he named Santa María de la Antigua del Darién.
Santa María de la Antigua del Darién was the first permanent European settlement in Central America. It served as a base for the Great Captain's дальнейшие explorations of the region. From Santa María, the Great Captain led his men on a series of expeditions into the interior of Центральная Америка. He explored the Darién Gap, the Atrato River, and the Magdalena River. He also made contact with several indigenous tribes.
In 1503, the Great Captain returned to Spain, leaving his lieutenant, Alonso de Ojeda, in command of Santa María de la Antigua del Darién. Ojeda continued to explore the region, and he eventually founded the city of Cartagena, Colombia, in 1533.
The Great Captain's fourth expedition was a significant event in the history of the New World. It marked the beginning of the Spanish conquest of Central America, and it laid the foundation for the establishment of the Spanish empire in the Americas.
This epic tale of the Great Captain's fourth expedition is a must-read for anyone interested in history, adventure, or exploration. With vivid descriptions and gripping accounts, this book will transport you back to the time of the conquistadors.
