The Captain's Log: Diamond Lil Does the Rio Dulce
In the tradition of Mark Twain and Jack Kerouac, The Captain's Log: Diamond Lil Does the Rio Dulce is a rollicking, true-life adventure about a group of friends who sail their boat down the Rio Dulce in Guatemala. Along the way, they encounter a cast of colorful characters, experience a variety of adventures, and learn a lot about themselves and the world around them.

The book is written by Captain John Roberts, a lifelong sailor and adventurer. Roberts has sailed all over the world, but he says the Rio Dulce is one of the most beautiful and interesting places he's ever been.
"The Rio Dulce is a river of contrasts," says Roberts. "It's a place of great beauty and tranquility, but it's also a place of danger and excitement. We had some amazing adventures on the river, but we also had some close calls."
One of the most memorable adventures in the book is when Roberts and his friends encounter a group of pirates. The pirates are armed with machetes and they demand that Roberts and his friends hand over their boat. Roberts refuses, and the two groups engage in a tense standoff.
"I was scared," says Roberts. "But I knew that I couldn't give in to the pirates. If I did, they would have taken our boat and everything we had."
Roberts and his friends eventually manage to scare off the pirates, but the experience is a reminder of the dangers that can be found on the Rio Dulce.
Despite the dangers, Roberts says that the Rio Dulce is a place that he will never forget. He encourages other sailors and adventurers to explore the river for themselves.
"The Rio Dulce is a magical place," says Roberts. "It's a place where anything can happen. I can't wait to go back."
