One Night in Miami
By Kemp Powers
A Modern Classic
One Night in Miami is a powerful and moving play that tells the story of four iconic African American figures: Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke. Set on the night of February 25, 1964, the play follows these four men as they discuss their lives, their dreams, and the challenges they face as black men in America.
The play begins with Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, and Jim Brown celebrating Ali's victory over Sonny Liston in the heavyweight boxing championship. The three men are joined by Sam Cooke, who is in town for a concert. As the night progresses, the four men talk about their experiences with racism, their hopes for the future, and the role they can play in the civil rights movement.
One Night in Miami is a beautifully written and thought-provoking play that offers a unique glimpse into the lives of four of the most important figures in African American history. The play is a must-read for anyone interested in civil rights, African American history, or simply great storytelling.
