About the Author
Louis L'Amour was one of the most popular and prolific Western writers of all time. He wrote over 100 novels and short stories, many of which were set on the American frontier. L'Amour's books have been translated into more than 20 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide.
L'Amour was born in Jamestown, North Dakota, in 1908. He grew up on a ranch in the Dakotas and worked as a cowboy, lumberjack, and miner before becoming a writer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and afterward worked as a journalist and editor.
L'Amour began writing Western novels in the 1950s. His first novel, Hopalong Cassidy, was published in 1951. He went on to write many other popular Western novels, including The Sacketts, The Lonesome Gods, and The Quick and the Dead.
L'Amour died in Los Angeles, California, in 1988. He was 79 years old.
