True Story: Cops, Counterfeiters, and the Contamination of America's Drug Supply
In the summer of 2016, a wave of overdoses swept across the United States. The victims were young and old, rich and poor, from all walks of life. But they had one thing in common: they had all taken counterfeit pills that were laced with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin.

The counterfeit pills were being manufactured in Mexico and smuggled into the United States by drug traffickers. They were made to look like legitimate prescription pills, such as OxyContin and Xanax. But instead of containing the prescribed medication, they contained fentanyl. As a result, people who took the pills were unknowingly overdosing on a deadly drug.
The overdose crisis quickly became a national emergency. In 2017, more than 70,000 people died from drug overdoses in the United States. Two-thirds of those deaths were caused by fentanyl.
In response to the crisis, law enforcement agencies across the country launched a massive crackdown on counterfeit pills. They arrested drug traffickers, seized millions of pills, and shut down pill mills. But despite their efforts, the flow of counterfeit pills into the United States has not slowed down.
In fact, the problem has only gotten worse. In 2021, more than 100,000 people died from drug overdoses in the United States. Three-quarters of those deaths were caused by fentanyl.
The contamination of America's drug supply with fentanyl is a tragedy. It is killing thousands of people every year, and it is destroying families and communities. Law enforcement agencies are ng everything they can to stop the flow of counterfeit pills into the country, but they need our help.
We need to educate ourselves about the dangers of counterfeit pills. We need to talk to our children about the risks of drug use. And we need to support law enforcement agencies in their efforts to stop the flow of counterfeit pills into the United States.
The True Story of Cops, Counterfeiters, and the Contamination of America's Drug Supply is a powerful and important book. It tells the story of the overdose crisis and the people who are fighting to stop it. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the dangers of counterfeit pills and the importance of fighting the overdose crisis.
