Can We Talk About Something More Pleasant? is a candid and moving memoir by Roz Chast, one of the most beloved cartoonists of our time. In this book, Chast reflects on her life, her family, and the challenges of aging. She writes with humor, wit, and a deep understanding of the human condition.

Chast begins the book with a series of essays about her childhood. She writes about her parents, her siblings, and her early experiences with art. She also writes about the challenges of growing up in a Jewish family in the 1950s and 1960s. These essays are full of humor and insight, and they provide a glimpse into the formative years of a talented artist.

In the second part of the book, Chast writes about her adult life. She writes about her marriage, her children, and her career. She also writes about the challenges of caring for her aging parents. These essays are more serious than the ones in the first part of the book, but they are just as well-written and insightful. Chast has a gift for finding the humor in even the most difficult situations, and she writes about her experiences with honesty and compassion.

The final part of the book is a series of essays about death. Chast writes about the death of her parents, her friends, and her pets. She also writes about her own mortality. These essays are poignant and moving, but they are also full of hope. Chast writes about death with the same honesty and compassion that she brings to all of her writing. She reminds us that death is a part of life, and that it is something that we should not fear.

Can We Talk About Something More Pleasant? is a beautifully written and deeply moving memoir. Chast is a gifted storyteller, and she has a unique ability to connect with readers on a personal level. This book is a must-read for anyone who is interested in the human condition.
