Sowell was born in 1930 in Gastonia, North Carolina. His family was poor, and he grew up in a segregated society. Despite these challenges, Sowell excelled in school and eventually earned a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.
After graduating from Chicago, Sowell taught at Howard University and Cornell University. He also worked as a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Sowell has written over 30 books and countless articles on a wide range of topics, including race, economics, education, and public policy.
In Personal Odyssey, Sowell shares his thoughts on the most important issues facing our society today. He argues that:
- Race is a social construct, not a biological reality.
- Government programs designed to help minorities often do more harm than good.
- Free markets are the best way to promote economic growth and prosperity.
- Education is the key to unlocking human potential.
Sowell's views are often controversial, but they are always based on sound evidence and reason. Personal Odyssey is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the challenges and opportunities facing America today.
