Sowell was born in 1930 in Gastonia, North Carolina. His family was poor, and he grew up in a segregated society. Despite these challenges, Sowell excelled in school and eventually earned a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.

After graduating from Chicago, Sowell taught at Howard University and Cornell University. He also worked as a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Sowell has written over 30 books and countless articles on a wide range of topics, including race, economics, education, and public policy.

In Personal Odyssey, Sowell shares his thoughts on the most important issues facing our society today. He argues that:

  1. Race is a social construct, not a biological reality.
  2. Government programs designed to help minorities often do more harm than good.
  3. Free markets are the best way to promote economic growth and prosperity.
  4. Education is the key to unlocking human potential.

Sowell's views are often controversial, but they are always based on sound evidence and reason. Personal Odyssey is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the challenges and opportunities facing America today.
